There’ll be a million tributes to Nelson Mandela written when it’s all said and done, some widely read, some drawing on personal connections to the man, some just as a watchful world citizen, sharing impressions developed from afar.
I’m in the latter category. There are precious few people I’ve idolised over the course of my life – JFK, MLK, Barbara Jordan, and Gloria Steinem as four who come right to mind, taking their place next to Nelson.
I can’t say it any other way, other than through the esteem with which I held him. He was a historical giant. He would have made a great one-world president.
Rest well, Nelson.
